Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know it's time?

This is the biggest and most consuming question. Please reach out. There are many different quality of life scales that can help get family members on the same page, or at least start the conversation. We can talk over email or phone to help you navigate this.

When are you available?

I am mostly available on the weekends. I will have occasional availability on week day evenings.

How is the procedure done?

For most pets, it's a series of two injections. The first one is a relaxing sedative with pain relief, to ensure the pet is comfortable before the second injection is given. Some pets are anxious about meeting new people, don't do well with injections, or maybe they're more reactive because they're hurting. Whatever the reason, if you're worried that the first injection may be distressing, we can discuss calling oral sedatives in to your local pharmacy in advance to help take the edge off that stress for everyone.

How soon can I expect a response?

I aim to respond to requests within one to two days. I am not an emergency service. If your pet is experiencing an emergency, please take them to an emergency hospital. I highly recommend Maritime Veterinary Emergency in Dartmouth.  I have had wonderful experiences with them with my own pets.

Do you offer aftercare?

I am not offering aftercare services of any kind. I am the best fit for people hoping to arrange aftercare on their own. Some people may opt for a burial depending on their local by-laws. You could opt to take them to your local veterinary clinic afterwards to arrange for cremation. I have heard lovely reviews from my colleagues about Paws in Paradise in Bridgetown. They may arrange home pick ups depending on your location.  https://paradisepetcremation.com/
